The state cabinet, which met yesterday under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, approved the construction of the centre, sources said.

The project was initially started in 1996 during the Farooq Abdullah regime, but was stuck due to some reasons.

After 16 years, the Hospitality and Protocol Department revised the project cost to Rs 24.61 crore.

Srinagar summer capital already has a convention centre, but the demand for one in Jammu was pending for a long time span. PTI AB KAS
