An 18-year-old youth, who studied at Jamia Millia Islamia University, committed suicide by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in Laxmi Nagar of East Delhi.
The incident came to light this morning when the mother of the youth went to his room to serve breakfast and found him hanging from the ceiling fan at their D-block residence.
The youth was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead by the doctors.
The deceased, Bharat Nagpal, was a B.Sc second year student in Jamia Millia Islamia University.
"We have not recovered any suicide note from the spot. It seems that the youth was under depression over something.
"We are questioning his family and friends to ascertain the reason why he took the extreme step. It could also be a love affair gone wrong," said a police official.
Nagpal's father, Rajesh Kumar Nagpal, runs a grocery shop on the ground floor of their house while his mother is a housewife. He also had an 8-year-old sister.
