Jamiat state President, Maulana Peer Shabbir Ahmed, said in a press release here today that Centre-appointed Ranganath Mishra Commission and R S Sachar Commitee had said that Muslims were lagging far behind the Backward Classes.
Muslims should be given reservation according to their population. The government should put the Mishra and Sachar reports before the Parliament and enact a law for this purpose, Ahmed said.
The Supreme Court yesterday refused to stay the Andhra Pradesh High Court order quashing the 4.5 per cent sub-quota for minorities carved out of the 27 per cent OBC quota in central educational institutions.
