Jawwad courts arrest with supporters

Noted Shia cleric and scholar Maulana Kalbe Jawwad today courted arrest along with his supporters in protest against the appointment of Syed Wasim Rizvi as chairman of Shia Central Waqf Board.
Jawwad and his supporters courted arrest in the old city area near Chota Imambara and were taken to the police lines, police said.
Jawwad's supporters shouted slogans against the SCWB chairman and demanded the state government remove him from the post, alleging that he was corrupt.
Addressing his supporters before the arrest, Jawwad flayed the government's move to appoint Rizvi to the post despite charges of corruption on him in waqf properties.

The cleric had yesterday also announced to court arrest over the issue but later called it off.
The district administration had today made elaborate security arrangements and took the protesters to the police lines in about 50 buses.
Jawwad and his supporters have been on warpath with the government on the issue for a long time and had also been staging a protest in the state capital.
