Recalling the efforts taken by the government she said for the 2015-16 financial year, a sum of Rs 65 crore has been allotted as part towards road safety.
In her message on the 27th Road Safety Week scheduled to begin from January 10, Jayalalithaa said, the government has taken steps on road safety awareness through radio and by sending short messaging services.
"Highway patrol operate on a 24 hour basis to identify traffic violation", she said, adding funds were alloted for purchase of rescue vehicle, speed monitoring devices, and setting up direction boards and speed-breakers.
"Though the Government takes various steps on road safety, it is the responsibility of people to follow the rules in order to avoid accidents. I appeal everyone to realise it and follow the rules for a safe journey", she said.
