JD(U) seeks JNU VC removal, probe by Supreme Court judge

BJP ally JD(U) on Monday demanded removal of the JNU vice-chancellor and a probe by a Supreme Court judge into the Sunday night violence in the university as it accused the Delhi Police of failing in its duties.

Party spokesperson K C Tyagi in a statement said that his party strongly condemned the violent activities of goons in the JNU campus, and that all sections of society should slam the way elected office bearers of the JNU Students' Union were attacked by masked outsiders.

"We strongly condemn the attitude of the university's vice chancellor and other authorities who became silent spectators of the dirty game of these goons. Police officials too failed in performing their duties.

"The JD(U) demands a free and fair enquiry by a Supreme Court judge and for a fair trial, the VC and other top administrators must be removed from their respective posts," he said, expressing his party's solidarity with JNU students.

The JNU is known for debate, dialogue and ideological differences and never for such incidents, Tyagi said and termed the violence as an act of "cowardice of those ideologically defeated in debate".
