The East Singhbhum district unit of JMM today decided to meet party Supremo Sibu Soren and Chief Minister Hemant Soren to urge them field senior party leaders instead of any newcomer in the Jamshedpur lok sabha constituency.
The President of JMM's district committee, Ramesh Hansdah told PTI, "We will exert pressure on the high command to allot party ticket to a senior member of the party instead of nominating a newcomer, which would hardly serve purpose."
A decision to this effect was taken at an emergency meeting of the party held here today, a day after a former Vice-President of Tata Steel joined the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM).
Asked about the possibility of party MLA from Baharagora (East Singhbhum), Bidyut Baran Mahato crossing over to BJP to contest the coming general elections, Hansdah admitted rumour was making rounds for past several days.
"We will appeal to the party supremo to field a senior leader from Jamshedpur seat in the interest of the party," he said adding that party workers will have not option but to toe the party line if our appeal go unheeded.
Earlier, Mahanty, who had retired as vice-president (Human Resources) of Tata Steel, was introduced to the media by JMM chief Shibu Soren and his Chief Minister son Hemant Soren in Ranchi while welcoming him to the party.
The JMM, which will contest four of the 14 Lok Sabha seats in Jharkhand, has announced names of candidates for Dumka, Giridih and Raj Mahal seats while it was yet to announce the name for Jamshedpur.
As per seat sharing formula, JMM has left 10 Lok Sabha seats for its ruling alliance partner Congress in Jharkhand.
