JNU student body visits Dadri

A Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students' outfit today criticised BJP and Samajwadi Party for "failing" to stop the spread of "communal hatred" in western Uttar Pradesh following a visit to Bishada in Dadri where a man was lynched over suspected beef consumption.
A six-member team of JNU-based student organisation Democratic Students' Federation (DSF) visited Bishada on a day uneasy calm prevailed in the village where the situation was claimed to be under control by the administration.
"The family members of the victim Iqlakh, even in their condition of distress, took us around the house, pointing out to the physical damages that were inflicted by the mob," DSF secretary Ishan Anand, a member of the team, said.

Another member Pratim Ghosal observed that the area remains "communally charged especially due to rumours and hearsay which are doing the rounds over social media and Whatsapp."
In an apparent reference to the visits of Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, DSF said that "it has not helped in restoring peace and instead aggravated the matter."
"From our brief visit it seems clear that the seeds of communal hatred in Western UP is only spreading," Ghosal said.
"It is condemnable that Narendra Modi has not spoken a single word on this barbaric incident. This goes for the ABVP as well, which needs to tell the student community what their stand is regarding this horrific incident," a statement by the group said.
