Chief Minister Arvind Kerjiwal today directed Home Minister Satyendra Jain to appoint a Special Public Prosecutor in the ongoing trial of murder case of a TV journalist Soumya Vishwanathan and announced that the government would bear the legal expenses.
The move came after Soumya's parents met the Chief Minister and requested him to appoint a prosecutor in the case in the additional sessions court at Saket.
Soumya, a journalist with a TV news channel was murdered on the night of September 30, 2008, in Vasant Kunj area while returning home.
Later, Jain met the family and directed the officials concerned to appoint a Special Prosecutor in the case.
According to a senior official, Jain asked officials to talk to Rajiv Mohan, who was the Special Public Prosecutor in the case but had subsequently resigned, to take up the case again.
The Minister told the victim's parents that Delhi government will bear the expenses of the prosecutor and will move an application for putting the case on fast track.
