First Class Judicial Magistrate Badrinarayan Arbad was yesterday booked under sections section 498 A (husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) and section 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code on complaint of his wife Smita.
The sessions court yesterday granted relief to Arbad from arrest till July 11.
The complainant, who got married in 2007, had alleged that her husband and in-laws subjected her to mental and physical torture.
According to the complaint, Smita was being physically and mentally tortured by her husband and in-laws over the issue of transferring 10 acres of land which is in name of her mother.
Smita alleged that she was allegedly beaten up and thrown out of their house by her husband on April 14, 2008.
According to sources, the judge has reportedly gone on leave and not available for comment.
