Jung stresses on streamlining functioning in health sector

To streamline the functioning in the health sector, Delhi's Lt Governor Najeeb Jung today asked the Health Department chief to draw up a mechanism in onsultation with Public Works Department to reduce the downtime of responding to local faults specially in critical areas like operation theatre.
"Role of MCDs in upkeep of hospitals be examined carefully regarding horticulture, parking and other related issues and arrangements be made with ambulance services so that a patient entering the hospital premises in emergency is not left unattended.
"Apart from that presence of senior doctors and staff should be ensured in the emergency wing especially at night time," stressed Jung.
Health Secretary informed Jung that there are 36 hospitals under the Health department out of which 6 are constituted as Societies and are functioning relatively better than the remaining 30.
Eight teams have been constituted for regular inspections of these 30 hospitals. Further, the emphasis on field inspections is now being shifted to dispensaries.
He said that various issues like long waiting time at OPD registration counters, hassles in OPD consultation and investigation, non-availability of medicine, inadequate awareness regarding free services, issues related to punctuality, attitude, insufficient support for handling arrivals at Emergency, usatisfactory hygiene and security, poor repair and maintenance and inadequate implementation of free treatment to EWS patients during the inspections were discussed.
Action taken reports in respect of the above issues was given. Principal secretary (Finance) highlighted the issue of security and suggested that security can be provided through Directorate General of Resettlement.
