A Shiv Sena member in Lok Sabha on Tuesday urged the government to junk plans to sell Air India and said efforts must be made to make it a viable entity.
Participating in the debate on the Aircraft (Amendment) Bill, Vinayak Raut of the Shiv Sena said Air India is a far better carrier than others in the field.
He said people get a sense of pride flying with Air India.
He urged the government not to disinvest the national carrier and make efforts to turn it into a viable entity.
Pinaki Mishra of the BJD said fall in crude prices is an opportunity for the government to bail out the aviation sector from the present crisis.
He requested the government to cut rates of aviation turbine fuel in view of the fall in crude prices.
