Supreme Court Justice Dipak Misra today inaugurated the summer internship on Business and Human Rights at Indian Law Institute (ILI) here.
More than 50 interns have enrolled for the programme conducted by ILI which will last till July 1.
Jernej Letnar Cernic, Associate Professor of Slovenia's Graduate School of Government and European Studies and Justine Nolan, Associate Professor, Faculty of Law, UNSW Australia are among the experts who would hold the programme.
They also addressed the inaugural function and stressed upon the issues concerning human rights across the globe.
Manoj Kumar Sinha, Director of ILI, said the course will help the participants have a better understanding of the nature and extent of the human rights responsibilities of business enterprises.
The course conducted by ILI and The Human Rights and Business Academy aims to expose law, business management students, civil society members, policy makers, corporate executives and others to the comparative perspectives in the fields of business and human rights.
Speaking on the occasion, senior advocate Rakesh Munjal, who is the Vice President of ILI, said international human rights treaties do not impose direct legal obligations on business enterprises and every individual was entitled to enjoying human rights without discrimination.
Jernej noted that the trend of relating human rights and business in India started after the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy.
Nolan said that this event would be an opportunity to exchange ideas regarding various human rights issues in business.
