Kerala police had arrested Shahnaz on Saturday for allegedly exchanging letters with Nazeer, a suspected LeT militant currently lodged in a Karnataka prison, while he was brought to a nearby local court in connection with a gold theft case.
Shahnaz was today remanded to police custody by an Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate court here, police said.
He is likely to be questioned by Karnataka police team, police said.
Police, which raided the house of Shahnaz in Perumbavoor in Kerala, had recovered a handcuff key. They are probing an angle whether the key was meant for Nazeer, who is lodged in Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara Central Jail.
At least eight letters were recovered from Shahnaz, most of them allegedly written by Nazeer.
The contents of some letters written by Nazeer allegedly deals with cases related to Bangalore blast, police said.
The letters were handed over to Shahnaz on Friday as Nazeer was brought to First Class Judicial Magistrate court at Kolencherry amid tight security by Karnataka and Kerala police.
Police, who had taken a note of Shahnaz's presence in the court premises, took him into custody from Ernakulam North Railway station on Saturday as he tried to meet Nazeer.
Nazeer was produced in the court in connection with a 2002 case in which he allegedly attacked a jewellery shop owner and his son, and made away with over two kg of gold for funding terror activities.
Nazeer allegedly masterminded a blast in the Karnataka capital in 2005 and is reportedly involved in various terror- related cases in Kerala.
