Shiv Kapur tumbled down the leaderboard with a final round of four-over 76 that had two bogeys and one double bogey and no birdies to finish tied 52nd at the Shenzhen International golf tournament, here today.
Kapur, who had a great start this week with a 67, finished at one-over 289 and in a disappointing tied 52nd place.
Kapur double bogeyed the fifth and then bogeyed the 11th and 17th for a 76.
However, adding to the huge success Asian golf has had this season so far, Thailand's Kiradech Aphibarnrat beat Li Hao-Tong from becoming the first Chinese player to win an European Tour event on home soil.
As Kiradech lost his lead with four bogeys and just two birdies till the 16th, Li, who was playing ahead finished at 12-under for the clubhouse lead.
Then Kiradech sensationally eagled the 17th to move from two behind to 12-under and tie Li.
An excellent approach from a fairway bunker gave the Thai a putt to win the tournament in regulation play, but his effort slipped to the right of the hole, meaning he and Li would return to the 18th tee.
In the play-off, Kiradech repeated his approach to find the middle of the green, while Li left himself a much longer putt.
And after the 19-year-old Li made a four for par, Kiradech sunk a beauty for birdie and celebrated loudly before kissing the green with delight and embracing his mother.
Kiradech's only previous European Tour victory had come at the 2013 Maybank Malaysian Open.
Tommy Fleetwood, who finished runner-up at Genzon Golf Club in last year's Volvo China Open, occupied third place on 11-under par after closing with a round of 69.
"I had a chance to win in 72 holes, but the putt in the play-off is the best putt I have ever made in my life. I've been struggling for a year. I lost my coach (Natpasit Chokthanasart, who died in December 2013), then changed my equipment. There have been lots of changes since I won, so I'm so happy to get my hands on another trophy," Kiradech said.
