Ker Women's Development Corp to organise largest walkathon

Kerala State Women's Development Corporation (KSWDC) is gearing up to organise the largest walkathon of women in the state to mark the International Women's Day on March 8 here.
Titled as 'She Walkathon', the event is conceived as the largest congregation of women in the state from all walks of life irrespective of religion, caste, creed, age, job and family, political or financial backgrounds.
About 5000 women participated in the first edition of the walkathon organised in the capital city last year and more participation is expected this time, a top KSWDC official said.
"There is no place for women in the state to celebrate their womenhood irrespective of their age, job, education, religion or other such criterias," KSWDC Managing Director PTM Sunish told PTI.

"So, we want them to offer a platform where they can gather just because they are women and where these criterias are not counted. It is the basic message of Women's Day also," he said.
As part of the event, the participants will march from Kanakakkunnu Palace ground to Kowdiar in the heart of the city on March 8 raising slogans about the greatness and strength of womenhood.
Ariel H Pollock, the Public Affairs Officer of the U.S Consulate General (Chennai), is expected to participate in the event as the guest of honour.
"Last year, we had many apprehensions about the success of the event as we were organising it for the first time. But, the response was overwhelming. About 5000 women took part in the event and it was beyond our expectations. This time, we expect much more than this," Sunish said.
