Kerala government today expressed its readiness to provide security in three airports in the state in the backdrop of the recent violence in Karipur international airport in Kozhikode that claimed the life of a CISF jawan.
"Government was ready to deploy state police in airports for smooth functioning of the security system," Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said here.
The state DGP has been asked to submit a report in this regard to the Centre in the wake of the violence at Karipur airport, he said.
Meanwhile, a state intelligence report has stressed the need for police presence in airports. CISF is only in charge of security.
The report submitted to the state government stated that the presence of Kerala police is required to maintain law and order and to check crimes, officials said.
On June 10, clashes had broken out at the airport between CISF personnel and AAI employees after a dispute over the central armed personnel insisting that an official of AAI's Fire Force department undergo security clearance.
In the ensuing melee, a CISF jawan received fatal gunshot injuries.
CISF personnel had then gone on a rampage, captured on CCTV, damaging property at the airport.
Four CISF personnel have been arrested in connection with damage to airport property.
10 AAI employees, including a supervisor, were held in connection with the violence.
