Kin of home guards dying on duty may get Rs 10 lakh relief

The kin of home guard personnel dying on duty may be given enhanced monetary relief with the Delhi government proposing to revise their ex-gratia payment from the existing Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh.
The home department has prepared a proposal in this regard and sent it to the finance department of the government for its consideration, an official said.
The ex-gratia of Delhi Police personnel was recently revised from Rs 5 lakh to 10 lakh and in view of this, there is also a need to revise the same for the home guard personnel, he said.
"A proposal has been prepared to increase ex-gratia payment for home guard personnel from the existing Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh. The proposal has been sent to the finance department," the official said.

In April this year, Delhi government had announced that it would provide a compensation of Rs 1 crore to the families of city-native defence and paramilitary force personnel killed while on duty.
Personnel of Delhi Police, the armed forces, paramilitary forces and other uniformed forces killed on duty in the city are covered under the policy.
"If this proposal is cleared, kin of home guard personnel who died while on duty will be given Rs 10 lakh (enhanced ex-gratia payment) by the government," official said.
At present, there are 5,000 home guard personnel in the national capital. The AAP government recently decided to deploy them as marshals in DTC buses to ensure women safety. In the first phase, over 2,000 personnel have been deployed on the buses, he added.
