Members of Kovai Power Driven Pumps and Motors Spares Manufacturers Association (KOPMA) staged a demonstration here today, demanding that GST on their products be reduced to five per cent.
KOPMA president Maniraju told reporters that over 3,000 manufacturing units,15,000 job working units and 1,000 dealers had downed shutters to join the one-day demonstration.
He said fixing GST for power driven pumps and spares ranging from 18 to 28 per cent has seriously affected business, he said.
Though the association has met the local minister, the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and GST Council members, nothing concrete had yet been announced in reducing the percentage to five per cent as demanded by KOPMA, he said.
If the Government failed to reduce the GST, manufacturers would be left with no other go than to down their shutters and take extreme steps like committing suicide as being done by distressed farmers, he said.
