Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) has registered a sale of Rs 6.18 crore at the recently-concluded India International Trade Fair (IITF) at Pragati Maidan here, 12 per cent up from last year's figure.
KVIC had installed 180 Point of Sale (POS) machines in association with State Bank of India in 200 pavilions to ensure smooth sales.
It said the sale of Rs 6.18 crore this year marked an increase of 12.15 per cent over last year's Rs 5.51 crore.
KVIC has also announced a tie-up with the Power Grid Corporation of India (PGCIL), a PSU under the Ministry of Power. Under the tie-up, PGCIL employees will be given a discount of 30 per cent by the KVIC.
"The discount that can be availed against a purchase of Rs 4,200 is 10 per cent higher than their standard discount rates. The PGCIL, in turn, would reimburse the employee a sum of Rs 3,000 on presentation of original Khadi India bill, which is the actual post-discount amount the employee would have paid to the KVIC if he or she had made a purchase of Rs 4,200," a release said.
The scheme is valid up to December 31, 2016 to all 10,283 employees of PGCIL on presentation of original valid ID card at the sales counters of Khadi India Outlets, it added.
Announcing this, KVIC Chairman V K Saxena said, "the agreement will be a win-win situation for both KVIC and PGCIL's employees as the KVIC will benefit because it would be able to sell products worth Rs 4.32 crore to 10,283 PGCL employees by December 31."
He said that while the initiative will generate 86,000 extra man hours for Khadi artisans, the PGCIL staff will also benefit because they will get to buy Khadi products worth Rs 4,200 each free of cost.
"The PGCIL would benefit as it would earn the goodwill of its employees and thus pave the way for better productivity," he said.
