"The resolution proposed by the US was uncalled for. We do not recognise that resolution. We are disappointed (that India voted in favour of the resolution)," Kariyawasam told reporters here this evening.
The decision taken by India to vote in favour of the resolution was due to its compulsions, he said.
On the ties between the two countries, he said, "the future is much bigger than the human rights issue."
"We are using our own home grown methods to handle all the issues. We don't need international intervention in Sri Lanka to handle our affairs. We are fully capable of handling our own affairs. Ours is a democratic country. We have democratic institutions. International intervention is not required," he said.
The UN Human Rights Council today adopted a US-sponsored resolution on human rights violation in Sri Lanka with 25 countries, including India, voting in favour of the document in the 47-nation strong body.
