Late payment fine on water waived till April 15

Delhi Jal Board today extended the deadline to pay total actual bill by 15 days to April 15 in order to take benefit of waiver on accumulated late payment surcharges.
According to a senior government official, the move came after seeing encouraging response from the people. Now consumers will just have to pay the actual arrears as reflected in the current bill, but by April 15.
"Earlier, a user had to pay actual bill by March 31 to avail surcharge waiver benefit. But Jal board has received encouraging response so we have decided to extend the deadline by 15 days to April 15. People in large number are depositing their bill so we want maximum people to avail the opportunity," Vice-Chairman of Delhi Jal Board (DJB) Kapil Mishra, said today.

According to a senior officer, after AAP government announced that it will provide up to 20,000 litres of free water to each household every month, it also directed the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to waive off a late payment surcharge of around Rs 186 crore imposed on domestic consumers.
At present, there is an outstanding bill amount of Rs 1,466 crore out of which around Rs 1,280 crore forms the principal bill amount and rest includes late payment fee of Rs 186 crore, an official said.
