Lawyers of the Allahabad High Court will continue to abstain from work till January 16 to press for their demand of inclusion of Moradabad, Bareilly and Kanpur divisions in the territorial jurisdiction of the high court bench in Lucknow.
The lawyers under the Oudh Bar Association (OBA) have been abstaining from work since January 8.
OBA General Secretary Ramesh Pandey said the decision regrading continuing the boycott till January 16 was taken by the executive committee of the bar after a discussion.
The office bearers and members of the committee were of the opinion that the demand of inclusion of the three divisions in the territorial jurisdiction of the high court bench in Lucknow needs be pressed with full force.
The committee found that the demand, made through an earlier resolution of January 7 which was sent to the Chief Justice of the high court, has not been considered in right perspective, Pandey said.
It was decided that the members of the bar will continue to abstain from work till January 16.
Earlier, the OBA lawyers organised a meeting and dharna and raised slogans in support of the demand near a gate of the high court bench premises.
Two letters were also sent to the Union Minister of Law and Justice and the UP Chief Minister over the issue.
