As soon as the news of his death spread, condolence messages began pouring in with Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Opposition Leader V S Achuthanandan and leaders of all political parties paying rich tributes to him.
Recalling his services as a lawyer, judge and minister, they noted that Iyer's was a most eagerly listened voice as he intervened in all social issues to uphold the public interests and larger national concerns.
As lawyer, judge and administrator, Iyer always sought to help the poor and marginalised, Achuthanandan said.
CPI(M) polit bureau member M A Baby said Iyer holds a unique distinction of serving the judiciary, executive and legislature, the three main pillars of democracy, with great distinction.
Members of the legal fraternity and judiciary also paid rich tributes to Iyer recalling the services he had rendered.
