The victim, identified as Vijayakumar, was alone in the house when the incident occurred as his wife had gone for work under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, police said.

The legs of the victim was severed by two men who came wearing masks, police said.

The reason for chopping off the legs was not known immediately, police said.

The incident came to light when his wife came back from work in the afternoon. She found her husband lying in a pool of blood and was taken to the medical college hospital. His condition was stated to be serious.

His wife told local television channels that she found her husband with legs chopped off when she returned to house in the afternoon from work.
