Three persons, including the honorary wildlife warden Bandu Dhotre, were injured when the big cat, that had strayed into Santoshi Mata Ward locality in Ballarpur town, some 15 kms from here, was being rescued this morning.
Video footage of the dramatic incident showed the leopard breaking free from the roof and pouncing on the bystanders, some of them armed with sticks.
Forest department officials later managed to rein in the animal with the help of tranquilisers, after it entered a toilet of a house. The feline was later shifted to Rambaugh Nursery here for further treatment, officials said.
The village, where the leopard entered, is not far from Tadoba National Park.
On April 17, a leopard had injured a man in a village in Karad in western Maharashtra.
