Licences of 41 boats cancelled

Licence of 41 boats were today cancelled by the fisheries department here as fishermen in the vessels were using banned fishing nets, officials said.
Last night fishermen in 690 boats had gone for fishing from here. When they came back this morning, a team of fisheries department officials, led by Karthikeyan, Joint Director of Fisheries department went to the shore along with DSP Vijakumar and checked the boats.
During the inspection, they found that fishermen were using the banned nets "rettai madipu valai" following which the licences were cancelled and case registered against the boat owners, officials said.
