Light rains, cloud cover brings temp down in Delhi

Light rainfall and loud cover led to a drop in temperatures in the national capital on Thursday.

The air quality also remained in the satisfactory category (AQI 92) for the second consecutive day, with a large number of vehicles remaining off the roads due to the nationwide lockdown enforced to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

Weather experts said pollution levels are expected to oscillate between satisfactory and moderate categories as sources of pollution -- construction activities, factories, workshops -- will remain shut during the 21-day lockdown.

On Thursday, the city witnessed traces of rainfall at several places and cloudy weather for a major part of the day, which brought the maximum temperature down to 29.2 degrees Celsius.

It was 33.3 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.

The minimum temperature, however, increased to 19 degrees Celsius, which was two notches more than the normal due to the cloud cover.

Kuldeep Srivastava, the head of the regional forecasting centre of the India Meteorological (MeT) Department, said hailstorm, dust storm/thunderstor with winds gusting up to 45 kmph will prevail over Delhi-NCR on Friday under the influence of a western disturbance.

Delhi has already recorded 103.3 mm rainfall this month, the highest ever in March.
