The logo for the Housing Start Up Index (HSUI), which ministry is jointly developing with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) was unveiled by Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation Minister Girija Vyas.
Speaking on the occasion, Vyas said the results of the pilot index will be released in the last week of this month or first week of February.
The Minister said the housing sector, especially affordable housing is a key segment of the economy. She said the government wants to achieve the goal of a slum-free India and for that development of affordable housing need to be encouraged.
The Minister said that in several cities, the ministry has began offering houses on rental under the Rajiv Awas Yojana. Vyas also highlighted the Socio Economic Caste Census (SECC), which she said had been developed by her ministry as a first time initiative in the country.
Officials said the HSUI will help in tracking the number of houses being constructed every year across the country. The housing and construction related activities in our country with its backward and forward linkages, with nearly 254 ancillary industries has huge multiplier effects on the economy, they added.
