Looking into Pentagon cloud contract: Trump

United States President Donald Trump has said the administration would look into the complaints about a USD 10 billion contract for a cloud computing system that the Pentagon would be give either to Amazon or Microsoft.

"We are getting tremendous complaints from other companies.... Some of the greatest companies in the world are complaining about it," Trump said on Thursday about the contract, which he described as one of the biggest ever in cloud computing.

Amazon and Microsoft are the only two companies that have qualified in the bidding process of the Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure (JEDI), which is estimated to be about USD 10 billion. Companies like Oracle have lodged a complaint against the bidding process of the contract, in which IBM was also left out.

"They're saying it wasn't competitively bid. This is going on for a long time -- I guess probably before this administration. And we're looking at it very seriously," the president said.

Trump, a vocal critic of Amazon and its owner Jeff Bezos who also owns the 'The Washington Post' newspaper, said he would ask the Department of Defense to look into the complaints very closely.

"Because I have had very few things where there's been such complaining.... We'll take a very strong look at it," he added.
