Though he had formally taken over the position on October 31, it was his first day in office today and was accorded a Tri-Services Guard of Honour.
Prior to this, Gen Dua was General Officer Commanding of the Army's strategic Chinar Corps (15 Corps) responsible for guarding the Line of Control in Kashmir.
Dua's tenure as chief of the Chinar Corps, which began on August 27 last year, has been characterized by a mixture of robust operations along the LoC and in hinterland. He is also known for his constructive engagement with the youth.
Dua is also credited with raising a new counter terrorism formation of Assam Rifles (IGAR East) in the North East. He was also the Indian Defence Attache to Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.
