The death of a Madhyamik examinee, returning home from private tuition, sparked mob violence at Manikchak in Malda district today with several stalls set ablaze by a mob.
A police officer said Ina Mondal was run over by a Chanchol-bound bus and declared dead at nearby hospital while returning from private tuition.
A crowd soon assembled at the spot and blaming the encroachment of road by hawkers led to the tragedy, went on a rampage setting at least 15 roadside stalls on fire, the officer said.
Personnel of RAF were deployed as a big force chased away the mob.
The situation was under control now.
