Madras HC stays Vishwaroopam release in TN till Monday

Ruling comes even as Haasan had agreed to remove 'objectionable' parts

A division bench of the Madras High Court has stayed release of Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam in Tamil Nadu (TN), till Monday. This comes as latest development even as the actor-cum-director announced he has agreed to remove parts of the movie objectionable to some Muslim organisations and claimed that a truce has been arrived between them.

It may be noted that a single bench of the Madras High Court, on Tuesday late night, has issued an order revoking the ban imposed by TN government against the movie. The government has issued a ban on the movie in all the districts pointing out chances for law and order issues after some Muslim organisations raised objections on the alleged way the movie depicts the community.

The state government today moved to the division bench with an appeal, on which the latest decision to postpone the movie release in Tamil Nadu till Monday. The next hearing has been fixed on Monday,

Meanwhile, Kamal Haasan has today announced that he has entered into a truce with the objecting Muslif organisations and has noted down the portions to be removed before release.

In a sentimental address today, Haasan said reporters in a press conference today that his earnings including his home is at stake since the financiers would take pocession of these properties if the movie is not released soon. He added that he would have to seek a secular state for a house, after this.

He added that he had pledged all his assets for the movie, which has come up with a budget of Rs 95 crore along with other expenses, and if the movie does not release, he would end up in huge loss. He said that he feels that TN wants him out from the state now, however, he would remain to be a Tamilian and Indian.

It may be noted that states like Kerala are showing the movie from January 25, as per the release date announced by the production house.
