Maha: Urban local bodies net Rs 1026.29 cr in old currency

The collection of taxes and arrears by urban local bodies from citizens in the form of demonetised currency notes crossed Rs 1000 crore mark today.
The time for accepting demonetised notes to pay taxes was extended till November 24 last week.
The collection in taxes and arrears till today stood at Rs 1026.29 crore, a government statement said.
Since the Centre announced the demonetisation of Rs 1,000 and Rs 500 notes on November 8, the Maharashtra government allowed citizens to pay their dues like water and power bills, property tax and arrears in the scrapped currency.
Till November 21, among the municipal corporations, Mumbai collected Rs 322.06 crore, Thane Rs 38 crore, Navi Mumbai Rs 42.05 crore, Kalyan Dombivli Rs 52.04 crore, Meera Bhayandar Rs 41.34 crore, Pune Rs 119.69 crore, Pimpri-Chinchwad Rs 34.67 crore, Nagpur Rs 19.55 crore, Aurangabad Rs 12.66 crore, Nashik Rs 19.16 crore, Kolhapur Rs 9.02 crore among others, the statement said.
The directorate of municipal administration which covers municipal councils collected Rs 136.84 crore, it said.
