Police said they had registered a case against the man Kanagaraj, who invited the woman to meet him the next day and spend some time with him.
The woman told him she would inform her husband, after which he abused her and threatened to kill her, police said.
The woman then consumed some poison and she has been hospitalised.
On a complaint from her, Kanagaraj was arrested, police said.
