Man drowns trying to rescue wife

A 30-year old man drowned while attempting to rescue his wife who slipped and fell into a canal in the district, police said.
Bharathy (25) was washing clothes in the Lower Bhavani Project Canal at Vellode Karukkankadu last evening when she fell into the swirling water.
Her husband Kadirvelu jumped into the canal to save her, but was washed away. Meanwhile, some others rescued her, police said.
In two rain-related incidents in the district, two women died at different places.
A 21-year old woman was charred to death and two others, including a ten year old girl, were injured when lightning struck them at Nanja Goundenpalayam last last night.

The two injured were being treated at Gobichettipalayam Government Hospital, police added.
60-year old Rajammal of Punjaipuliampatty died when the compound wall of a house collapsed and fell on her while she was walking on the road last night, they sadi.
Meanwhile, due to heavy rain in catchment areas, the inflow into Lower Bhavani Project Reservoir at Bhavanisagar stood at 9,512 cusecs and the water level stood at 82.81 feet this morning.
