Man held for smuggling gold worth Rs 24.43 lakh at airport

A man has been arrested for allegedly trying to smuggle into the country gold bars valuing about Rs 24 lakh at international airport here.
The passenger was intercepted after his arrival here from Sharjah. On detailed examination of his baggage and personal search resulted into recovery of 26 cut pieces of gold total weighing 980 gms valued at Rs 24.43 lakh which were concealed in the hair trimmers and measuring tapes, a press release issued by the customs said.
The gold has been seized and the passenger has been arrested, it said.
