City Civil and Sessions Judge V M Nayak, while convicting Dipesh Thakkar, who ran a private tuitions in the city, also held his father Harivadan and mother Pushpa guilty for killing Bhumi Upadhyay.
The court imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on Dipesh, of which Rs 75,000 would be given to the family of the victim.
As per the case details, Dipesh wanted to marry Bhumi, who was one of the tutors in the classes run by him at his residence in Maninagar. However, she refused to marry him.
"He poisoned her first and then strangled her with a rope. Then, with the help of his parents, he first put her body in a sack and next day they threw the dead body in the underground water tank," said public prosecutor of the case Arvind Pandya while talking to PTI today.
Court has rejected Dipesh's request to set off the time he has already spent in the jail since his arrest in March, 2009.
