NDMC legal advisor's murderer being shielded: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday alleged that a person related to the murder of NDMC legal advisor Mohammed Moin Khan was being shielded due to his "proximity" to an Union minister.

"Had the police been with us, the killers would have reached the gallows. I am not saying the individual is accused but at least call the person concerned. At least probe the case. Get call records. Even camera footages have been deleted.

"Police has no courage to call him as he is friends with Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Fair probe is not being done in the case," Kejriwal claimed during a short discussion in the Delhi Assembly on alleged negligence of Delhi Police in investigating the death of Khan.

He desisted from taking any name, although it was an apparent reference to NDMC Vice-Chairman Karan Singh Tanwar.

A resolution was passed in the Assembly hailing Khan as a "martyr" while Delhi government has also taken a similar decision in this regard.

Khan's family members, including his two daughters, who were present in the House during the discussion broke down as the chief minister spoke.

Kejriwal demanded that the case be referred to "an appropriate" House committee. Two minutes silence was also observed in the memory of Khan.

Later, Kejriwal and Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta sparred over compensation to Khan's family. Kejriwal asked Gupta to ensure that the Home Ministry releases an amount of Rs 25 lakh, as declared earlier, by Tuesday.

Khan was shot dead last month, a day before he was scheduled to pass the final order on the lease terms of hotel 'The Connaught' which was functioning on a property leased by the civic body.
