A 28-year-old stone crushing unit worker climbed an under-construction high tension electricity tower at nearby Tharamangalam and threatened to commit suicide demanding that his wife and children be rescued from bonded labour in a quarry in Gunutur in Andhra Pradesh, police said.
Balakrishnan who perched himself at an height of about 100 feet was persuaded by fire and rescue service personnel and revenue officials to climb down.
Stating that his wife and two children were being harassed and beaten up by the quarry owner, he wanted the District Collector to take action to release them.
Revenue officials assured to make arrangements for rescuing his family after which Balakrishnan came down on his own, police said.
The man said he and his family members had gone to the quarry two years ago after the owner paid Rs 50,000. But he did not pay any other money and continued to exploit them. He, however, managed to escape recently.
