The incident, which took place at around 12.30 PM, sparked protest in the university campus in which around 400 students took part.
According to the police, the girl, who is pursuing her final year in MSc (Chemistry) told police that she suspects that a video clip has been made by a male student when she was using the washroom of Chemistry Department.
"As per the complainant, when she was inside the washroom, she saw a hand holding a cell phone camera and trying to record the happenings inside. The washroom is a combined one with a wall erected between the boys' and girls' bathrooms," said a police official.
An eyewitness said the bathroom had a window that led to a pipe leading to the ground. Some lab attendants reportedly saw a person running away but no one has been identified so far.
Meanwhile, a senior police official said they have lodged an FIR under section 354C of the Indian Penal Code at Maurice Nagar Police Station against unidentified persons.
