A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly killing an assistant sub-inspector of Delhi Police in the Mianwali Nagar shootout, and a constable in a separate incident of 2015.
Naveen Khatri was nabbed yesterday near the Rithala metro station here, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said.
When asked by the police to stop for verification, he started running but was overpowered after a brief chase and a minor scuffle, he said.
Naveen has previously been involved in over five cases of contract killing, attempt to murder, the Arms Act, robbery etc, he added.
Naveen was one of the conspirator in the Mianwali Nagar shootout on April 30 in in which three persons including a Delhi Police assistant sub-inspector and an alleged gangster were killed.
On January 17, 2015, constable Jitender Khatri was gunned down by Naveen along with his neighbour and gangster Surender Khatri alias Samunder and others in Narela.
Jitender was collecting information about Samunder's gang.
In the shootout on April 30, Monu Dariyapur, his personal security officers -- assistant sub-inspector Vijay Kumar and constable Kuldeep and two others -- Arun Shastri and Yogesh were attacked in outer Delhi's Mianwali Nagar.
Some armed men had started firing indiscriminately at their car killing Monu, Kumar and Shastri and injuring the other two.
During investigation, it was found that Monu was previously a member of Sonu Dariyapur's gang. Both of them were friends but the relationship got bitter after Monu married Sonu's cousin, due to which the latter decided to eliminate him, Yadav said.
Sonu along with his other associates including Naveen fired at the car carrying Monu and his wife in 2006.
The driver of the car was killed in the attack, however and Monu and his wife were critically injured following which they were given police security, he said.
Sonu then hatched a conspiracy with his gang members including Naveen to kill Monu and they succeeded on April 30.
