A group of social organisations today accused the Jammu and Kashmir government of having failed to restore the land of a family in Kishtwar district which was allegedly grabbed 35 years ago by a tehsildar.
Several organisations came out in support of 65-year-old Ram Rattan Sharma of Matta in Kishtwar and demanded action for getting back his land, which has been held against government orders and court judgments.
"J and K state is a strange place where an elected government and top bureaucrats are supposed to run the government but the reality speaks something else as top most officers' orders are flouted with impunity and court judgments ignored by the Kishtwar administration to help a former Tehsildar who illegally grabbed the legally owned land of a 65-year-old Ram Rattan Sharma of Matta, Kishtwar, 35 years ago", claimed a joint press release of various organisation at press conference.
"He is refusing to return it to him despite clear orders from court of law, DC Kishtwar, and Divisional Commissioner Jammu", the release said.
Sharma along with his wife was present during the conference attended by organisations including APMCC, Sri Ram Sena (J-K), Mazdoor Sangh, Kranti Dal, Rashtriya Shiv Sena (J-K), ASKPC, All J-K Displaced Youth Forum and NSF.
"The height of the lawlessness in the state is that even after directions from courts and numerous reminders and contempt threats by the Divisional Commissioner Jammu the district administration have failed to implement the orders of the superiors to restore the land to its owner which was grabbed in 1984 by the then Tehsildar in clear misuse of his official position," they alleged in the release.
