Manoj elected players' representative in BFI EC

In a first for Indian boxing, former Commonwealth Games gold medallist Manoj Kumar was today elected the players' representative for male boxers in the recently-formed Boxing Federation of India's Executive Committee.
Manoj, a two-time Olympian, was elected to the newly-created position during the National Championships, which concluded here today.
"The BFI had decided that there will be player representation in BFI Executive Committee. The elections were held today and 27 votes were cast by all the 27 participating teams in the championships. The first players' representative for male boxers was elected today and his name is Manoj Kumar," BFI President Ajay Singh announced at the end of the day's proceedings.
"He got 16 votes out of 27 votes and has been elected by overwhelming majority. We are hopeful that he will show us the right way," he added.
The 29-year-old veteran, representing the Railways Sports Promotion Board, clinched the welterweight gold medal in the Championship, his first medal in the category to which he recently jumped after being light welterweight for more than five years.
Manoj is also a two-time Asian Championships bronze-medallist.
Meanwhile, Deepak Singh, who defeated L Devendro Singh in 52kg division final today, was declared the best boxer of the championships.
