Meghalaya Chief Minister Mukul Sangma today launched the Meghalaya Livelihood and Access to Markets Project (Megha LAMP) aimed at providing market linkages to farmers and improve their earnings.
The chief minister expressed happiness that Megha LAMP would develop 47,000 enterprises set up by the rural community in 39 blocks and 54 value chains and livelihood clusters in 18 blocks to benefit 1,40,000 households.
He said the project would create infrastructure for 55 primary markets, enhance rural connectivity for village clusters and producers through creating 250 km of eco-friendly roads, 20 bridges and 10 ropeways across the target areas.
The project with a budget is 174 million USD, is being implemented as a part of the state's flagship program, the Integrated Basin Development and Livelihoods Programme (IBDLP) and assisted by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), officials said.
Chief Secretary PBO Warjri said this was the third project from IFAD to benefit Meghalaya which would further strengthen the objectives of Basin Development programme.
IFAD Mission Leader Edward Mallorie said that Megha- LAMP could be an international best practice project as it was based on an institutional set up and demand and community driven task.
