Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) has urged Sri Akal Takhat to take action against Sarna brothers for allegedly creating hurdles in the construction of a memorial in Delhi in the memory of the Sikhs killed in the 1984 riots.
SAD General Secretary Avtar Singh Hit, Senior Vice President Onkar Singh Thapar and Joint Secretary Kuldeep Singh Bhogal have written to Jathedar of the Takhat Gyani Gurbachan Singh and sought his intervention.
They demanded action against SAD Delhi chief Paramjeet Singh Sarana and his brother Harvinder Singh Sarna for their "attempt to stall" the laying of the foundation of "1984 Sikh genocide memorial" to be constructed on the premises of Gurdwara Rakab Ganj in Delhi.
The leaders requested the Jathedar of the Takhat, the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs, to summon Sarna brothers and take action against both of them as per Sikh traditions.
Paramjeet, a former president of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), has moved the Delhi High Court, seeking to stop the construction of the proposed 1984 anti-Sikh riots memorial.
Sarna's petition came two days before the foundation laying scheduled for tomorrow, the same date when the matter will come up for hearing in the court.
In his writ petition before the High Court, Sarna said the construction of a memorial inside a gurdwara was against the tenets of Sikhism.
He memorials are dedicated in the memory of martyrs while those who died in 1984 were victims of "genocide".
In January this year, Sarna lost control over DSGMC to the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) group, which announced construction of the memorial last week.
