Heavily armed militants today attacked a training camp of the Airport Security Force near Pakistan's Karachi international airport here, a day after an all-night siege ended with the killing of more than 30 people.
Four militants attacked the camp number 2, located at the ASF academy in Bitai Abad, Pehlwan Goth, close to the Jinnah International Airport which had been cleared of militants after fierce clashes between forces and terrorists yesterday.
Exchange of firing continues between the ASF officials and terrorists outside the camp. Sounds of explosions were also heard, causing panic among citizens in the vicinity which is adjacent to the heavily populated Gulistan-e-Jauhar area.
This is the same area from where a group of 10 terrorists, who attacked and laid siege to the old Karachi airport on Sunday night, gained access to the restricted site.
A Twitter account allegedly operated by Omar Khorasani of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Mohmand faction tweeted today that the group has carried out this second attack.
Flights were suspended today once more, having resumed following the previous attack.
The Twitter account of the CAA, @AirportPakistan tweeted that EK 606 from Dubai which was expected to arrive at Karachi airport at 12:50pm is now returning to Dubai.
Roads leading to the airport have been cordoned off as the standoff between security forces and terrorists persists.
Ranges and police continents have rushed to the scene. An emergency situation has been imposed in the area.
