Min temp settles below freezing point across Kashmir

The minimum temperature across the Kashmir division, including the Ladakh region, settled below freezing point as the cold wave tightened its grip after a few days of respite.
The minimum temperature across Kashmir dropped and settled below the freezing point after a few days of respite, an official of the meteorological (MeT) office here said.
He said Srinagar - the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir -- recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.5 degrees Celsius, while Qazigund - the gateway town to the Valley -- in south Kashmir registered a low of minus 2.4 degrees Celsius.
He said the night temperature in Kokernag, in south Kashmir, settled at a low of minus 0.3 degrees Celsius, while Kupwara town in north recorded the minimum of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius.
Pahalgam -- the health resort which also serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra -- recorded a low of minus 4.2 degrees Celsius last night, the official said.
He said Gulmarg recorded a low of minus 7 degrees Celsius and was the coldest recorded place in the Valley and second coldest in Jammu and Kashmir - colder than Leh in the Ladakh region.
The night temperature in Leh settled at a low of minus 5.2 degrees Celsius, while the nearby Kargil town recorded a low of minus 13 degrees Celsius.
Kargil was the coldest recorded place in Jammu and Kashmir, the official said.
The Meteorological office has forecast mainly weather in the state over the next few days.
