Minority community houses torched over kidnapping of girl

Enraged over the "kidnapping" of a 17-year-old girl, her relatives allegedly set several houses of a minority community on fire in Cheepaner village near here, the police said today.
The girl's kin torched around 24 houses in the village on Saturday, they said.
According to the police, the girl was kidnapped by the man, who was later identified as Sabir, on July 4, when she was returning from her school in Nasrullaganj area.
When she did not to return home till late night, her parents and relatives informed the police, they said.
"Enraged over her kidnapping and suspecting the role of Sabir in it, the family members of the girl, who belonged to a upper caste community, torched 24 houses belonging to the the minority community in the area," Nasrullaganj police station in-charge Niranjan Sharma said.
No casualty was reported, he said
Sharma said that taking serious cognisance of the matter, the police launched a search and went through the CCTV footage.
"After working on several leads, the girl was traced to Nagpur, from where she was rescued and Sabir was found with her," he said.
Sabir was arrested and produced in a court in Nasrullaganj, which sent him to judicial remand. Police also arrested one Raja Khan for helping the accused in the crime, Sharma said.
Tension prevailed in Cheepaner village after the houses were torched, with many people even leaving the place, police said.
Police also arrested five people for arson and a hunt was launched to nab 11 others, they said.
Security personnel have been deployed in the village to avoid any untoward incident.
