"Mobile game downloads are expected to grow at a CAGR of 58 per cent over the next 5 years going from 1.6 billion downloads in 2016 to an estimated 5.3 billion downloads in 2020," the report - Mobile Gaming on the Rise in India - said.
The report attributed the anticipated growth as a result of growing adoption of games, the rapid proliferation of smartphones, affordable data and universal implementation of direct carrier billing.
Nascscom, in association with App Annie and Deloitte, today released two white paper reports - Mobile Gaming on the Rise in India and Applied Games in India, outlining substantial growth in mobile and applied games sectors in India.
Rajesh Rao, chairman of Nasscom Gaming Forum said that both reports demonstrate the growth of obile and applied games in India, for both local and international developers and publishers.
"At Nasscom Gaming Forum, we are excited by these findings and the opportunities these give to both local developers and publishers and look forward to continuing to build a thriving and innovative games economy in India," Rao said at a press conference.
The reports said that the Indian market for applied games is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate of 14-16 per cent, from USD 40 million in 2016, to USD 80 million in 2021.
Currently, across India, there are 40 developers of Applied Games (Independent studios, IT firms venturing into Applied Games and e-learning companies), that operate out of Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai and NCR, it said.
